Welcome!

Hi there, thanks for coming to my site.

I’m James, and this is my attempt to create my own little home on the internet. My goal here is to reject corporate social media, revive a bit of the “old web,” and embrace the IndieWeb movement.

This site is built to explore what is like to exist online outside of the walled gardens created to exploit our attention and harvest our data in service of feeding some of the wealthiest corporations in history. I want to demonstrate how people can own their data/content/identity and still share what they would like with those who might be interested. It isn’t easy to break free from social media, but as someone who was around the web before the term existed - I think any effort in that direction is more than worth it.

Web 1.0 was a wild and often frustrating place, but it really was a place that encouraged building, creativity, and individuality. In the 30+ years since then a lot has changed, but as technology has progressed, the capability of making and hosting a personal site like this has become easier that it was back then… The difficulty is in taking the leap and leaving the comfort of the algorithmic bubble behind us.

Anyway, I am truly humbled that you’ve stopped by, please look around and enjoy your time while here.
